We all want to present an image of ourselves that is authentic, flattering and charismatic.
What kind of experience are you looking for?
As a New York City headshot/portrait photographer, it’s been a privilege to work with the creative artists and business people I’ve had the good fortune to meet over the years.
I’ve learned that there is little in the way of truth in 1/125th of a second of your life, the fraction of a second that is a still frame. We are each multi-faceted, unique and dynamic human beings. That said, we all know a good headshot or portrait when we see one. The most successful images emerge from a genuine and collaborative session that is productive, creative and uplifting.
Executive Photos, Actors Headshots, PR Profile Photos, Commissioned Portraits…they are all in the same family. Your likeness…what you want to convey to viewers, it says something about you. It is a salutation and , if successful, a revelation.
The term “headshots” is accurate in that the subject’s face is the focus and the image usually involves direct eye contact. And typically, it is composed head and shoulders. However, depending on intended usage, it may even be framed waist up or full body. Usually, if the image is online, it is relatively small and should be powerful and interesting enough to catch the viewer’s eye.
The accepted style of modern headshots has shifted from time to time. The styles have gone from a close-up images to a chest or waist up image. It has changed from vertical to horizontal and back, glamorous images to casual outdoor lifestyle images that look natural, relaxed and like “caught candids.”
The description of the headshot is a flattering and identifiable image of you. Whether you are a corporate professional, an actor, a musician or author or you need a personal portrait for social media, to get a well-made headshot or portrait, you might consider the services of a professional photographer.
Promotional photographs are not cookie cutter images and thanks to the internet we are all more visually sophisticated than ever before and we have ideas and artistic preferences of our own to apply to our representative image.
